What’s New?
- You can now create Instagram DM datasets in Ad Manager Settings > Meta > Conversions > Create new dataset > Goal Type: Instagram DM(alongside Lead Event & Funnel Event).
- In Workflows, the action formerly calledFacebook Conversion APIis nowMeta Conversion API.
- The action adds Event Type = Instagram DMand updates required fields for CTD (Click-to-Direct) messaging attribution:
- Connection Type: Integration orAd Manager
- Facebook Pageselector
- Instagram Accountselector (accounts linked to the chosen Page)

How It Works
- Create the dataset: In Ad Manager settings, go toMeta > Conversions > Create new dataset > Goal Type: Instagram DM. This will create tracking datasets for Instagram DM events and every time any one interacts with the click to direct ad to Instagram, the conversion will be recorded.


- Build your automation: In a Workflow, addMeta Conversion APIas the action after selecting the apt trigger > chooseAd Manager(or Integration) > setEvent Type = Instagram DM.


- Select assets: Pick theFacebook Pageand thelinked Instagram Accountfor the ad’s Page.

- Attach the dataset: Choose theDataset ID(list shows the dataset name that you created).
- Map details: KeepLeadSubmittedor select the preferred event name, optionally sendValue/Currencyand if needed, enableCustom Mappingto passIGSIDfor stronger attribution.
- Publish: When a user starts a DM from your CTD ad, the Workflow sends theCAPI eventto Meta using your IG DM dataset.
Why It Matters
- Closes attribution gapsfor InstagramClick-to-Direct campaigns.
- Captures conversations as eventsandsends them via CAPI, improving reporting, optimisation and ROAS measurement.
- Keeps dataset managementinside Ad Manager while leveragingautomationsyou already use.
Notes
- In order to make this work effectively, users have to do connect their Meta account under integration again and do the re-authorization as CTD CAPI requires new oauth scopes.
- UI changes in Workflows:
- Action renamed to Meta Conversion API.
- Pixel IDis changed toDataset ID(shows dataset names when Connection Type = Ad Manager).
- Instagram DMadded toEvent Type.
